The industry focuses on the movement and transportation of people to different locations, which also includes other industries like the hotel industry along the way. Since the digitalized world requires modern solutions, traveltech is also experiencing major growth. This article highlights five significant venture capital firms in the travel industry from our keyword-based list.

1. Travel Capitalist (USA)

Travel Capitalist has invested in 7 different countries and has over 1200 industry contacts. They are exclusively focused on the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors and usually invest in large seed onwards projects. A portfolio company that focuses on traveltech is jetsmart, which has developed a more sustainable alternative to fuel for aircraft, reducing CO2 emissions by 80 %.

Update 2024: In September 2023, the company announced the successful completion of the exit from its Tier 1 real estate hospitality investment in Calcutta, India. This exit represents a resounding success for the company across key quantitative and qualitative investment metrics.

2. Antler (Singapore)

Antler is an early-stage venture capital firm with a strong network of industry experts. The company has cultivated a portfolio of interesting startups across various sectors, including travel. One of them is TravelPerk, a corporate travel management platform that simplifies business travel. TravelPerk offers easy booking, expense management, and traveler support. Additionally, another portfolio company Klook provides an online platform that offers a selection of activities, tours, and attractions for travelers around the world.

3. True Ventures (USA)

Headquartered in California, True Ventures is a venture capital firm that invests in early-stage technology startups. Portfolio companies that focus on travel technology are Airbnb, the world’s leading online marketplace for short-term accommodation rentals, and Hipcamp, a platform that connects travelers with unique outdoor stays and camping experiences.

4. Gobi Partners (Malaysia)

With 1.5 USD billion in assets under management Gobi Partners is the best-connected Pan-Asian venture capital firm. The company was founded in 2002 with its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong, however, they have grown across 15 different locations. Gobi Partners supports many different companies in various sectors, one company in the travel sector is SastaTicket, a one-stop shop that offers many different travel-related services.

5. MairDumont Ventures (Germany)

MairDumont Ventures is a VC firm from Germany that invests in the travel sector. Since 2015 they have invested in 12 companies and the past 12 months they have initiated 11 transactions. The company is interested in early-stage B2C as well as B2B. Two companies they have backed, for example, are Beach Inspector, a platform that allows people to search and rate beaches, and Viselio, a software service that simplifies visa applications.
