List of 3 important AgTech venture capital investors

The digitalized world is taking over and optimizing processes in all sectors. Thus, AgTech (=Agricultural Technology) describes the use of technology in the agriculture sector. Innovations ranging from robots and mechanization to biological materials and new agricultural systems. The market for AgTech is expanding rapidly and so are start-ups and businesses with new ideas. This article highlights three interesting AgTech venture capital investors from our curated AgTech VC funds list.

 1. SP Ventures (Brazil)

SP Ventures is a Brazil-based VC investment firm that strives to find new approaches to challenges facing our world, such as climate change, decreasing natural resources, and inequality. The company invests in early-stage businesses that focus on technology-driven solutions for agriculture and food across Latin America. Genica, for example, is a portfolio company that focuses on the development and distribution of biological pesticides and Adeagro is a software, which measures the future and past production of rural properties in real-time.

 2. AgriTech (Poland)

With over 370 AgTech-related keywords on their website, AgriTech is one of the leading VC funds in this sector, and the first and only such fund in Poland. They invest in research and development projects in early- and late-stage businesses and choose to support innovations to the commercial end customer. A promising company in their portfolio is Plantalux, a family enterprise from the Lublin region that invented an LED lamp that is essential for photosynthesis and allows almost all electricity to be converted into light that is then absorbed by the plants.

3. Nordic Foodtech VC (Finland)

Nordic Foodtech VC was founded in 2020 in Helsinki. They have set the goal to transform the global food system for health, the climate, and the planet. They attempt to solve the underlying problems in farming using new technologies, scientific discoveries, and engineering.  The fund consists of 42 million € that can be invested in approximately 20 companies in the Nordics and Baltics. Companies they have funded so far are, for example, Chromologics, a company developing natural food colors through fungal fermentation, and Tracegrow, a business researching organic fertilizers made from used batteries.

Update 2024: Recently in 2023, the VC firm invested in the company Paras Aqua. A company developing new concepts for sustainable and profitable on-land fish farming. The proprietary partial-driven Recirculation Aquaculture System avoids the environmental impacts of traditional fish farming and the capital cost of RAS systems.
